Stage 3 will be the first mountain stage of the race and will take riders over the Titiwangsa range. The day’s first categorized climb will be a Category 2 effort, over 21km, before another 14.3km ride to the highest summit of the day, a Category 1 climb at Titiwangsa. Riders with descending abilities may be able to catch up on the descent, but two further climbs along the route, a Category 2 and a Category 3 at Banding and Sungai Rui respectively, and the rolling conditions of the entry into Baling means that the stage winner will likely be a major GC contender, at the front of a much-diminished peloton.
