Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi is known for attracting fans and spectators from all walks of life and among them includes school children who line up alongside the roads used by the race every year to cheer on the riders.
And it is no different this year as thousands of school children from many different schools across the country dress up in colourful outfits and sometimes even costumes to cheer as the race passes by their schools.
They also sing songs and wave flags as the riders pass by which adds to the atmosphere of the race.
The Le Tour de Langkawi cavalcade often stops at the schools to hand out goodies to the children and their teachers. They can also take pictures with the race mascots who travel with the cavalcade.
To encourage participation from schools, Le Tour de Langkawi also organises an annual cheering competition for the schools, known as Voice of LTDL, which offers cash prizes for the best schools.
The first-placed school receives RM2,500 while the second-placed school receives RM1,500. The third-place school will receive RM1,000. The top-three schools all receive participation certificates.
Five schools will also receive RM500 consolation prizes as well as participation e-certificates.
